  3. NetHelper is a 32-bit Windows shareware application developed by 
  4. Core Competence (c) 1997, 1998. NetHelper consists of an integrated set 
  5. of desktop network diagnostic tools which include:
  6.  
  7.     Ping                        Verify basic reachability
  8.     Trace Route                 Discover the route taken by packets
  9.     Lookup                      Map Hostname to/from IP Address
  10.     Routes                      Display the active routing table
  11.     ARP                         Display the physical address table
  12.     NetBIOS                     Display Windows network information
  13.     Connections                 Display active TCP,UDP,NetBIOS ports
  14.     Statistics                  Interface,IP,TCP,UDP,NetBIOS stats
  15.  
  16. We hope you find NetHelper a friendly, useful addition to your desktop.
  17. Please feel free to try out NetHelper for as long as you like.  If you
  18. find NetHelper useful, we ask that you register your copy using the
  19. form available on the Registration page.

  21. NetHelper 2.0 operates on any PC running Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0.
  22. There are no minimum requirements for memory and processor -- if you 
  23. can run Windows 95 or NT 4.0, you can probably run NetHelper!  At least 
  24. one modem or network adapter card with a TCP/IP binding must be 
  25. installed on the PC in order to use NetHelper.  A client for Microsoft
  26. Networks must be installed on the PC in order to use NetBIOS features.

  28. To Install NetHelper
  29. --------------------
  30.  
  31. There are two ways to install NetHelper.
  32.  
  33. 1) Run the self-extracting zip file NetHelp.exe, or
  34. 2) Use an archive utility to unzip NetHelp.zip.
  35.  
  36. In either case, extract the content of the zip file into a temporary 
  37. directory and run Setup.exe.  The Installer will prompt you to:
  38.  
  39. - accept the terms of NetHelper's License Agreement;
  40. - choose the destination folder to contain NetHelper; and
  41. - choose the program folder (start menu item) to represent NetHelper.
  42.  
  43. You may Cancel installation any time before responding to the last 
  44. prompt.  After you respond "Next" to the Program Folder prompt, the 
  45. Installer will copy NetHelper files to the specified destination 
  46. folder and add NetHelper, NetHelper Readme, OnLine Help, and 
  47. UnInstall NetHelper items to the specified Start Menu program folder.
  48. When installation has been completed, the Installer will prompt you 
  49. to allow your PC to be rebooted.
  50.  
  51. Before installing any software, it is generally a good idea to
  52. back up your existing configuration.  NetHelper Setup may update or
  53. install the following DLL files in your Windows/System or 
  54. WinNT/System32 folder: Mfc42.dll and Msvcrt.dll.

  56. Running NetHelper
  57. -----------------
  58. You may run NetHelper using either the destination folder icon or 
  59. program menu item.  If active DLLs were updated during installation,
  60. you will find it necessary to reboot before running NetHelper.
  61.  
  62. Whenever you run an unregistered copy of NetHelper, you will be 
  63. reminded to Register.  After you have registered, NetHelper will
  64. display the most recently used panel by default, or the panel
  65. indicated by a command line argument provided to NetHelper.

  67. To UnInstall NetHelper
  68. ----------------------
  69.  
  70. There are two ways to un-install NetHelper.
  71.  
  72. 1) Run UnInstall NetHelper using the program menu or folder icon; or
  73. 2) Use the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel feature.
  74.  
  75. In either case, the utility will ask you to confirm that you wish to 
  76. remove NetHelper from your PC.  You may cancel by responding "No" or 
  77. continue by responding "Yes".  The UnInstaller reverses all steps 
  78. taken during Installation, including removal of the destination 
  79. folder, program folder, menu items, and DLL files no longer in use.

  85. accessible directly from the program menu or from within NetHelper.
